Conference Weekend

Terry & Randy, came down for a visit this past weekend.
We had a good time hanging out with them and watching Conference.

Here's a recap of our weekend........

SATURDAY
Terry, Devyn (she begged me to go) and I helped my RS President make about 50 lunches & then deliver them to a crew of guys from our ward who were down helping gut homes on Galveston Island. It was the 1st time I had gotten to see the destruction done by Ike in Galveston. They have really made a dent in clean up on the Seawall already but there is still so much work to be done, especially in the neighborhoods. It was very sad and humbling to see. The Island is not the same.

The homeowners they helped were so appreciative of the service they received. It was so interesting and humbling to hear their hurricane experiences. One lady they were helping and we served lunch to, rode out the hurricane in her one story house by herself with her 4 dogs. The water in her house got waist deep and she ended up in her attic with her dogs for almost 2 days. When she came down the water had receded some and was 2 feet deep. There is still no running water or electricity to most of the neighborhoods down there.

Flagship Hotel.....
this is where we stayed on our honeymoon.

used to be a gift shop

still some debris left on the seawall

boats were everywhere they weren't supposed to be

it was amazing to me how this HUGE tree
that's leaning on the right didn't fall on the house

this was so weird to see....
a boat in the middle of the concrete medians on the interstate leaving Galveston.

all tuckered out.

We came home, rested and watched Conference. I always look forward to the messages and inspiration from General Conference!!!

Meagan & Trent came over to hang out for the afternoon. Then the guys got ready for the Priesthood session and we had a 'Hinson Ladies Game Night' at our house and played Apples to Apples. I plan on making a tradition of this twice a year so you Hinson Ladies that weren't here......plan on coming next time in April!!! It was fun!

SUNDAY
We all were invited over to Fred & Rodna's for lunch between sessions for Ryan's birthday. It was fun for the kids to get to hang out again with their cousins. When the last session started we took all the kids to the duck pond and fed the ducks while most of the guys stayed behind to be spiritually edified. (haha) ;o)

soooo cute! i'm starting to get really bummed that we are missing out on all these family get togethers. I told Jeff we need to move closer to all you guys. He said ok. :) It won't happen for a little while though.
