Visit with Papa

the kids & I went to spend the day with Papa (my mom's dad). He lives about an hour from us but because of crazy schedules and a hurricane.....it had been a while since we'd seen him so it was a long overdue visit!

We went to the Lake Jackson Museum......

this plane was credited as the first ever to demonstrate radar invisibility. In 1972, Dr Leo Windecker provided this plane to be evaluated by the Air Force in White Sands, NM. The results were held as 'classified' even to him! Six years later the Air Force announced they had developed a new breed of composite 'stealth' aircraft.
(that's the AF for ya!)

We ate at this place called Asiels on Mammoth Lake....which is now a scuba diving lake.
In November 2003 a backhoe operator at the sand pit unearthed a mammoth tusk, then a week later found a pair of tusks. A skull and other bones also were found. Scientists determined the skull was about 38,000 years old and came from a Colombian mammoth.
pretty cool!!

Then we stopped by the Sea Center........

Taylor with an (creepy) eel

a nurse shark

a grouper....
these things can get up to 800 lbs!!!

hands on tide pool....
had blue crabs, stone crabs, hermit crabs, & sea anemone's in there.

Papa & Gabe hanging out

spider crab....pretty cool looking!

black seahorse

we're leaving....

fun times!!
thanks for letting us hang out with you Papa!

You know looking at these pictures, I realize that I miss him a lot. Maybe one day I will be able to take Cami down there to meet him.
