Girls Weekend

I got do one last girls weekend getaway this time with my BFF from High School in Spurger...Stephany. This is the first time we've ever gotten to get away and do something only the two of us.....and her first time ever for a girls weekend...so it was a TREAT!! We had a lot of fun relaxing and really getting to catch up on the last 13 years.

We headed out on Thursday to Corpus Christi for the weekend.

We stayed at the awesome Omni Hotel

the view from our 16th floor room

view of the Bay

We spent all day Friday and Saturday on Padre Island just relaxing, chatting, sunning and people watching at the beach.

this is the life!!

you might be a redneck if.....
you convert a uhaul truck into an ice cream truck!!!

this is a gift shop with a huge Sandcastle as the front/side of the store....

probably one of the highlights of the whole trip.....

met this awesome 89 years young man named JD Byars in the Hotel Lobby as we were getting ready to leave.....he served 20 years in the Navy and was selling a book of his that contained 114 poems he wrote while in the service during WWII called "Dusty Memories". He recited 2 poems by memory (that he had written in 1945) to me right there on the spot. He said he wrote most of them while under stress during the war. He was born and raised there in Corpus Christi. I was just fascinated with his story, memory, wittiness, and spunk at his age...as I always am with older Veterans.
He's a poet, comedian and MC and he's on youtube.com if you wanna check him out.

on the drive back home...
very cool low puffy clouds.

cotton fields...
made me wanna break out and sing Alabama's song ''Walkin in High Cotton'
